100 years after the great battle for hiigara, scientists found that increasing numbers hiigarans came out of the warp of hyperspace insane and ultimately, if not suicidal, then there would be unforgiving attacks on other hiigarans. The problem grew to the loss of many 100,000's of lives.

A Solution had to be found.

With an extensive study of the victims for 10 years, the Kiiths found that a chaos force of great evil within the warp of hyperspace. It was deceived that small jumps did not give the chaos time to affect the crew of the ships, but long sustained exposures to the warp gave the chaos time to corrupt the minds of the hiigarans. The scientists were still baffled that the chaos only affected the hiigarans and not the Taiidani or one of the more advanced races like the Bentusi.

The Kiith council voted to restrict the use of long hyperspace jumps and used automated ships to transport supplies.

The Kiiths never made the mistake of underestimating the threat of Chaos, and in order to meet that threat they put the best scientific brains of the Kiiths to work. Weapons and spacecraft poured out of the factories throughout the galaxy, but none were successful.

The Kiiths best scientists planed to counter the insidious influences of the Chaos Powers with a 20 year project for the creation of the Illuminati: genetically engineered super-humans with god-like psychic powers. The intention was to create a whole race of super-humans from the genetic blueprint of the Illuminati. By making them loyal and strong they hoped that they would prove immune to the malign psychic influences of Chaos.

The Illuminati were to be shining examples of hiigara free from the taint of corruption. The energy of the uncorrupted warp would flow through them; invigorating them and conferring special powers such as were possessed by the Kiiths of old.

When the first Illuminati came out of the saturation chambers, a relief came to the Kiiths and there were great celebrations.

Specialised stasis chambers where designed for the ships to protect the crew from the chaos, with the Illuminati to guide the ships through the warp.

Unfortunately, things did not go quite according to plan. Despite the Kiiths best attempts to shield the project from the penetrating eyes of the Chaos Powers they still managed to learn of it. The Illuminati were still in their foetal stage, when the Chaos Powers combined their energies to spirit them away in an unexpectedly bold move.

The Chaos put into the minds of the hiigarans on long exposures, subconscious ideas into the furthest reaches of their minds. This slowly brought about detest and growing jealousy for the Illuminati, spreading throughout the System. With this turned civil war, hiigarans started to attack and murder them.

The Illuminati fought a hard loosing battle being outnumbered 1000 to 1, and only a 5000 escaped in ships of taiidani and kushan, first they hid in great wastelands made by the war for Hiigara and were scattered throughout the system and nearly hunted to extinction.and there were only 400 left.

A nebula with shielding properties which conventional fusion drives could not penetrate without failing and turning the ships that entered into drifting graveyards. The Illuminati modified the engine design of their ships to compensate after a dangerous expedition into the nebula.

The expedition had only limited supplies whilst the crew of the ship modified the engines. It took many days to complete and supplies were rationed, but at the end the crew were starving, but were successful. With the modifications the rest of the fleet, mapping or the nebula could begin. During this event a gravitational distortion was detected deep within, and was investigated.

A planet of great beauty was the source and inhabitable, and with some work the Illuminati settled on the planet. With the nebula rich in resources, they traded with the Bentusi to gain supplies they needed to build a society. The Bentusi were only to happy to help and our secret was hidden.

A plan to build a planetary and a nebula defence system was put to into action. The construction was tainted by lack of the right supplies, and the Bentusi could not supply the specific parts needed.

The Illuminati sent ships and assault teams to the outskirts of the hiigaran system and with there superior strength and stealth, infiltrated the weaker less guarded planets and retrieved the equipment and technology necessary to build there own parts and equipment.
The Turanic Raiders were implicated, but rumours existed that Turanic Raiders could not pull such an elaborate strategic attack.

Slowly over time the Illuminati were forgotten and over the years the Illuminati have grown very strong and there home world was made impenetrable to invasion and attack from any know race due to the design of the Defence System (DS) emplacements in the nebula and around the planet, including a Advanced Warning System (AWS) and the three moons which have been converted into Mass Ion Projector's (MIP) recently constructed.

The Illuminati will never be threatened again…
